I have had many pet doors over the last 25 years for our always growing cat family (lost a few to old age).
We live in Hawaii and have two solid doors on the front side of our house and an oversized large sliding glass door in the back, so I install our pet doors in a window that the cats have access to. I removed the glass framed portion of the lower half of the window and replaced it with a painted plywood panel with modifications to accommodate the installation (which was fairly easy with its template and instructions) of this replacement pet door. I am only using one of the two flaps provided, this is for ease of the cats pushing through for entry and exit of the house. At first, they were reluctant to use it because it was different than the other pet door that they were accustomed to using... but it didn't take long (and a couple of pushes by me through the door for each cat) for them to start using it.
The ability to lock the flap from swinging which would allow entry or exit is nice, though we allow our furry friends full access at all times... unfortunately sometimes they take advantage of this freedom and bring inside the house a lizard, bird or mouse (mainly lizards) to show us how good of a hunter they are or just to share their meal with us... Thanks, but I'll pass on the meal.
All of our previous pet doors were heavy duty plastic/PVC. This pet door has many features and a higher quality aluminum construction than others. This justifies the price in my opinion.
My favorite pet door so far.
